Feedback on Proof Model
Eric is the exhibit director at Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. We sat down with David and Eric to talk to us about our proof model. After showing David and Eric the functioning proof model we then had feedback given to us. Which was to change it into a cylinder type model. So instead of having a box on top of a rectangle we are going to have one function, a cylinder type model. Divided into four sections, with a rotating feature we will have a knob on the contents rotate. Then people will be able to view the four different stages of a developing fertilized chicken egg.
General Exhibition Information
At first the visitor will only see four eggs on top of a table. However when they notice the big red button they wont even think twice to press it. Once the red button is pressed they will be able to see the inside of the egg. They will look at what the egg looks like when it is one day old. What it looks like when it is four days old what it looks like when it is ten days old, and what it looks like when it ten days old. When looking at all of these changes the kids will be very impressed. Underneath each egg there will be short little captions explaining the differences between each egg. We hope the kids will take away the development of a chicken egg. It sounds like something that is not very useful however, when looking a the big picture it is. The kids are not only looking at the development of an embryo but also the way nature works, how life takes its cycle, and how beautiful birth and development can be. The two inquiry processes we are; exploration, visual and mental interaction.
All about our project:
You rotate the knob that is on top of the cylinder. In order for the objects inside the cylinder to rotate. The objects rotating are the different stages of the development of the chicken embryo. It starts off in day 4, moves onto day 10, after it is 15, and last but not least day 20 (when the embryo hatches out of the egg). While turning the knob you notice that the picture is changing. The changes in the picture are the changes the embryo is going through.
The audience had a really great feedback. They found the project to be cool. However, not very insightful. Our teachers also thought it was too simple. We need to have a much different design in order for our audience to learn more. We struggled at first as to how we will make our project more insightful. In order for the audience to get more out of our exhibit.
We are all very proud that we got the project to move, and that we build something presentable. However, we are very upset that we did not take our project to the next level. We all feel like we could have come up with something much more informational.
We plan to make huge changes for our final design. We want our project to have more captions. We are going to have captions and the person using our exhibit will have to match a picture with the caption. The captions will be ordered randomly so that people will have to actually read the caption in order to match it with the picture. People will know that they have matched the picture with the caption because a light bulb will light up.
