Week 1 Check- In
Chicken embyo
1. By time given to us we have been able to find a farm to buy our fertilized chicken eggs. We have also found two incubators, graciously donated by our lab teachers. We have also thought of our three experiments. Sierra will be testing to see what happens when you hatch a regular egg, versus hatching an egg without the protective layer called the bloom. Amber will find the right lighting for the egg. She will have one egg in the light, and the other will be in the dark. Araya will be testing how higher temperature affects two of the three eggs.
2. We are currently working on trying to obtain the fertilized chicken eggs. We are hoping to get them this weekend. We are also working on updating this website.
3. My teams plans for the next week is to go to Liberty Farms and get nine fertilized eggs. Before hand we will have turned the incubators on so that they have ran for 24hrs before the eggs arrive Tuesday. We will take 2nd period to drive up to Liberty Farms to get our eggs. Then on Wednesday we will conduct our experiments on the eggs. Then log in our data table, and update this website on Thursday and Friday.
4. The most important thing that we need help with is finding someone who will be able to turn the eggs on the weekends. It is necessary to turn the eggs so that the embryos will not stick to the walls of the shell. If somebody does not turn the eggs the chicks will die.
5. Some obstacles that may prevent us from completing the project is if none of the chicks end up hatching. If somehow we do something wrong and none of the chicks hatch, we wont have a very good outcome. Another obstacle that can end up preventing us from completing this project is the lack of us recording data throughout the whole process. The reason why is because in the end when we are exhibiting our data we will have no data/proof to back up our initial ideas.
