Chicken Hatching ~ Project Description
Have you ever been given the chance to hatch 12 fertilized chicken eggs? Well, in our biology class, we were given the opportunity to hatch 12 chicken eggs. We were required to experiment on fertilized chicken eggs. We put eight of the chicken eggs in an incubator with the temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius (which is the ideal temperature), two eggs were put under a light with inconsistent temperature, and the last two eggs were put in a different incubator with the temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. We watched the eggs for 21 days and waited for them to hatch. We recorded our data every day and took care of our "babies". While the baby embryos were growing, we were busy working hard in our engineering class. We built an inquiry museum exhibit that has a chance to be featured in the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. Our exhibit is meant to teach the audience each step a developing chicken embryo experiences. We focused on four different stages of development; days 4, 10, 15, and 20. We are looking forward to finishing our exhibit and hopefully have the chance to share it with the rest of San Diego.
